"La Salle Public Library's Star Party at Rotary Park"
On Saturday, September 28th, at 7:30 p.m. the La Salle Public Library will be hosting NASA Solar System Ambassador, Joel Knapper, when he assists in touring the night sky during a 2 1/2 hour Star Party at Rotary Park.
Stargazing has been around since humans first looked up. Whether you're an amateur astronomer, or someone who just wants to enjoy the stars and planets, and learn a bit about them, the La Salle Public Library's Star party will be a fun opportunity, close to home. Staff will have two telescopes set up to observe the sky but more telescopes are always welcome. In addition to observing through telescopes, Joel will provide a "wonders of the night sky" tour of celestial objects and constellations. This program is free and open to the public and is weather and sky permitting.
A dedicated and active NASA Solar System Ambassador, James "Joel" Kannper is an officer of his amateur astronomy group, the Kankakee Area Stargazers, where he presents monthly updates on NASA programs. He also hosts many other NASA events in the Chicago area.
Because of potential changes in the weather, and/or cloud cover, the final decision to go forward with the Star Party will be made on Saturday, September 28th, at 10:00 a.m. In the event of inclement weather, Joel Knapper will present, "Mars: Exploration of Earth's Neighbor," at 3:00 p.m. at the La Salle Public Library. The La Salle Public Library is located at 305 Marquette, La Salle. Rotary Park is located at 2837 E. 5th Rd., La Salle. For more information regarding the Star Pary, please call the Library at 815-223-2341.
