"The Natural History of Starved Rock"

On Tuesday, August 21st at 6:00 p.m. the La Salle Public Library will host, Master Naturalist, John McKee, when he presents, "The Natural History of Starved Rock."   

Even a casual walk through Starved Rock State Park will provide the observer with views of lush flora, from mosses and towering trees, native plant species, an incredibly diverse array of wildflowers, and simply to the aggregate of plant life that surrounds and beautifies.  The geology of the Park, canyons and sandstone bluffs, streams, rivers, and flatland prairies offer the viewer a personal look at a landscape so different than what is experienced just outside of the Park's boundaries.   A diversity of ecosystems provide the natural settings for numerous mammals, insects, reptiles, amphibians, and birds.   From eagles to shorebirds, and songbirds to waterfowl, one need only look up. 

In this program, John McKee will take the audience on an exploration of the geologic forces that shaped Starved Rock landscape, along with a look a the fascinating floral and faunal diversity it supports.
