"NASA Globe Observer Neighborhood Walk" at the La Salle Library
On Saturday, August 24th, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., the La Salle Public Library will host a neighborhood walk, as part of the NASA Globe Observer Mosquito Habitat Mapper protocol. While walking through the neighborhood, participants will learn about the world's deadliest animal - the mosquito, its habitat and what Citizen Scientist can do to eliminate man-made habitats that foster mosquito populations. Participants will be able to take home plans for making a mosquito trap out recycled materials. The walk will start at the Library and will promptly begin at 10:30 a.m. During the walk, participants will use the NASA Globe Observer app. Participants must bring their own device, either IOS or Android with them. If someone doesn't have a device, the Library has a limited number of devices available to use. The walk may be on uneven sidewalks or streets. Participants are encouraged to wear suitable shoes, bring water, sunglasses or a hat with them.
Earlier this year, the La Salle Public Library was one of the six libraries nationally to receive a grant award for testing new NASA Globe Observer protocols. Since concluding the testing protocals, the Library has been featured at the American Library Association (ALA) National Conference in Washington, D.C. at the NASA Globe booth, as well as highlighted in the July edition of the Globe Mission Mosquito monthly newsletter.
This program is free and open to the public. The Library is located at 305 Marquette Rd., La Salle and is ADA compliant and welcoming. For more information, please contact the Library at 815-223-2341.
