"I am a Scientist" January Programs
January, "I Am a Scientist" at the La Salle Public Library is especially for children, ages 4 through 9, with a parent or an adult caregiver. These approximately hour-long programs are designed to provide children with fun hands-on science learning that gives children the confidence to explore and discover. These programs are offered in January and all are free and open to the public.
The Library's kick-off science program for 2018 is "Who Froze Batman?" on Saturday, January 6th, at 10:00 a.m. This "sleuthing with forensics" program sets kids to solve the crime of the frozen caped crusader. Using fingerprint identification, chromatography fiber analysis, and black lights to see what otherwise cannot be seen, kids solve "the crime". This program requires registration and is limited to 25 kids. Please call the Library to register. Pizza will be served.
Offered twice on Tuesday, January 30th at 11:00 a.m. and on Wednesday, January 31st at 5:00 p.m., participants will learn about wavelengths, color and visible light in "Discovering Color in Light." Hands-on experiments using prisms and filters let kids explore color combinations, black and white.
"Good Vibrations," offered on Tuesday, January 30th at 11:00 a.m. and on Wednesday, January 31at at 5:00 p.m. is an opportunity for kids to explore sound via three senses. Fun experiments are coupled with a close-up look of a replica of Thomas Edison's phonograph.
Registration is not required for "Discovering Color in Light" or "Good Vibrations," but is always appreciated.
