"1000 Books Before Kindergarten Early Literacy Program at the La Salle Public Library"
Children birth through five years old are invited to join the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program at the La Salle Public Library. 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten is a multi-year, self-paced, early literacy program that encourages parents to read one thousand books with their child before he/she enters school. Reading to children builds vocabulary and language skills, and prepares them to enter kindergarten with may other needed skills for success. Children are introduced to a wide range of books and stories, and to the value and love of reading through books shared with a parent or caregiver.
Every 100 books read the participating child will receive a gift book, courtesy of First Book for their own personal library. After finishing 1000 books, the child will receive a Certificate of Completion and his/her name inscribed on a bookplate in a selected picture book from the Library's collection. This program is free and open to the public. For more information, contact the Library at 815-223-2341.
