M & H Cleanup Continues into 2023

U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will resume cleanup of residential properties at the Matthiessen and Hegeler Zinc Co. Superfund site, in LaSalle, Illinois beginning next month. Residents will begin to see workers setting up field equipment in the area. EPA contractors will contact owners of properties with  elevated levels of contamination  that are on the cleanup schedule for this year to schedule discussions about soil cleanup and landscaping restoration.

EPA has begun the sampling phase in LaSalle. EPA representatives will contact property owners who have submitted access agreements during prior construction seasons to schedule an appointment. Sampling priority is given to residential properties close to the Matthiessen and Hegeler site and to those with young children, pregnant, or nursing women. Sampling and cleanup are done at no cost to the owner.

If you have not signed an access agreement and are interested in having your property sampled, take a picture of the QR code below to download an access agreement form. You can scan or take a photo of the signed and dated form and e-mail to an EPA representative below.
