The 2008 construction season has begun with work on the downtown streetscape, improvements in the parks, and roadway resurfacing. UC Paving has been working on the reconstruction of the downtown sidewalks and parking in front of the Canal Corridor Visitor Center. All of the concrete has been placed and after trees are planted, railings on the curb ramp will be installed.
Today, Len Trovero Construction began grinding the roads that are scheduled for reconstruction. This includes Marquette from 6th to 7th, the alley south of 8th between Bucklin and Wright, the alley west of N. Gooding between 11th and Lindberg, Chartres from 11th to O’Conor (pending an agreement with the city of Peru), James Road (E. 6th Road), N. 29th Road, Malcolm between 24th and Edwards, Central north of 5th, and Blackstone.
Work continues in Hegeler Park with the reconstruction of the area between the tennis courts and the men’s/women’s softball diamond. This area will be landscaped with mulch and sod. The lights at 9th Street Park (Matthiessen Park) have been repaired and are now operational.
City crews have been concentrating on seeding all of the areas that were left from last year’s projects. This includes the area on Chartres near the post office and the culvert replacement on James Road (E. 6th Road).
