The city's engineering department is a full-service department responsible for:

Design, review, and support of all public works systems
Management of city-owned property
Support of economic development activities and services
Grant acquisition and administration
Review of residential and commercial developments
Development and maintenance of city maps and asset database

Current Projects

Water Meter Replacement

To date the city has replaced approximately 3800 meters and read systems. We are nearing the end of this project, and we are expected to have it fully operational by summer.

2008 Road Project

An official list of roads to be repaired still needs to be decided upon, but based on last year's discussions, we are looking at possibly fixing the following roadways depending on funding:

Sterling Street (north of 11th), Gunia Drive, Central, Blackstone, East 6th, North 29th, miscellaneous alleys

Also, based on the complete failure of the roadways in the Golfview subdivision area, this office will be recommending complete removal and replacement of the roadway in portions of that subdivision.

Cannon Gravity Sewer Extension

This project is currently in design.

Water Plant Reconstruction

This project is currently under construction and is close to being completed. The design-build contractor is MACTEC.

East End Wastewater Plant

This project is currently in the design phase and plans have been submitted to the IEPA for approval. Construction is planned for 2008.
